Self-drilling screws are almost used everywhere. They have that tapered shaft with the thread continuously running from the tip until the head. This screw type is made for drilling itself into any material; although, sometimes one needs a drill hole to make the drilling easier. In the case of materials made of metal, the self-drilling screw's chisel tip can act like a drill bit. This is when a drill hole is not needed. They can also drive through thin sheets of metal.
